Can you find any symbols in this poem for me?

The fact is that children's verses are often extremely symbolic. Here the hole symbolizes a grave; the scythe is a symbol of death. A "stoned" scythe would be one which has just been sharpened. The gr is like the gr of Carl Sandburg's poem "I am the Gr, I cover all." It symbolizes the renewal of nature and spring. The last stanza, of course, emphasizes the silence of death, as does the title.
