Is it true that jalapenos release more spiciness into your food the longer it cooks?

We are doing a chili contest and are making the chili tonight but it will be sitting a in a crock pot for a while tomorrow evening. I am worried that the chili will become too hot but I am not sure if my fear is even relevant.
